Off-trade alcohol prices down 3.1%

Alcohol prices overall fell by 0.3% in August compared with the same month in 2015 according to recently-published CSO figures.

Compared to July 2016 they level-pegged in August and over a three-month period June to August they rose by 0.2% compared with the March to May 2016 quarter.

Off-trade prices for alcohol fell 3.1% over the 12 months to August comprising a rise of 0.2% in spirits prices, a fall of 5.3% in wine prices and a fall of 1.3% in beer prices.

Compared to the previous month, July, off-trade alcohol prices in August were down 0.1% comprising a 0.7% fall in spirits prices, a 0.1% rise in wine prices and a 0.1% fall in beer prices.

On-trade prices in licensed premises rose 0.9% over the year to August comprising a 1.3% rise in spirits prices, a 1.0% rise in wine prices and a 0.7% rise in beer prices as well as a 0.9% rise in the price of soft drinks & mineral waters.

Compared to July 2016 prices in licensed premises in August showed no change, with wine, beer, soft drinks & mineral water rising in price by just 0.1%.
