November Bar Sales volumes down 91% on 2019

Retail sales volumes in bars were down by 91.2% last November while retail values were down 91.1% compared with November 2019 according to provisional seasonally-adjusted figures from the Central Statistics Office.

November’s bar volume figure was down 63.9% on the previous month, October, while value was down 64.1%.

Final seasonally-adjusted figures for October indicate that bar sales volumes were down by 74.9% on October 2019 while sales values showed a drop of 74.6%. Compared to the previous month, September, October’s bar sales volume figures were down by 0.9% with bar sales values down 4.3%.

Taking the three month period September to November 2020, bar sales volumes showed a decline of 70.2% in volume and 69.7% in value compared to the same three-month period in 2019.

Both bar sales volumes and values were down 27.1% in the September-November quarter last year when compared to the previous June/August period last year.

Retail volumes generally were 4.7% lower in November compared to the same month in 2019 and they were 3.8% lower than in February, before the Coronavirus crisis began.
