Lidl boosts off-trade alcohol share to 12.3%

Despite its share shrinking, SuperValu retained its top position in share of total off-trade alcohol sales over the last year while Lidl considerably increased its own share.

According to figures supplied exclusively to Drinks Industry Ireland from Kantar, at 25.9% SuperValu’s share was down on the previous year’s 26.7% figure in the 52 weeks ending on the 21st of March compared with the same 52-week period ending on the 22nd of March 2020 while Tesco witnessed a further reduction in its value share of the take-home alcohol market from 24.6% down to 24.1% in the 52-week period.

But Dunnes Stores grew its share from 18.5% to 18.6% while Lidl’s share grew to 12.3% from 11.4%.  Aldi saw its share shrink from 10.4% to 10.1% while the ‘others’ grew share from 8.4% to 9.0%.
