Emerging Food Champions sought

Fáilte Ireland has set out to find emerging food champions to join its Food Tourism Development Network.

Nominations are being sought from across Ireland’s food tourism community and in particular from within its two newest propositions: ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’ and ‘Dublin – A Breath of Fresh Air’.

Fáilte Ireland’s Food Tourism Development Network was established by Fáilte Ireland in 2012 to find emerging food champions with a resounding passion and belief in Irish food and who actively influence and shape the future of Irish cuisine and food tourism in their region.

Already, 21 food champions have participated in the initiative and have contributed to encouraging more people to stop, spend and stay longer in their local tourism regions while at the same time further developing Ireland’s overall food tourism reputation.

“We’re looking for individuals that have a resounding passion and belief in Irish food.  We are seeking innovative leaders that have a commitment and drive to actively influence and further shape the future of Irish cuisine and food tourism locally,” stated the Head of Food Tourism with Fáilte Ireland John Mulcahy, “There’s a real appetite within the industry to build on Ireland’s food tourism reputation and our food champions will have a key role in that.”

The selection process of the new intake of food champions is through a nomination process.

Nominees will be selected, representing a mixed group of owner/managers of food service businesses who are members of wider food tourism communities. They will be committed to playing a role in the continuing development of Ireland’s food tourism proposition and reputation. The final candidates will be selected following a competitive qualifying process.

Nominations are sought from individuals who have:-

A demonstrable commitment to implement change

An understanding of the aims and messages behind Irish Food and Food Tourism Experiences

A food and/or beverage business operation in business a minimum of two years

Capacity to lead and/or make decisions

Membership of food tourism organisations

Received food accolades/awards

A proven track record of collaboration

An interest in the latest innovations in Food Tourism

Open to developing new ways to further embed the link between Irish food and its value to the visitor experience

Build Ireland’s food tourism reputation and encourage visitors to stop, spend and stay longer in the destination.
