December bar sales down by two-thirds

December's bar sales volumes were 369% up on the previous month, November, while December's bar sales values were up 380.8% on November, according to provisional seasonally-adjusted figures from the Central Statistics Office.

According to the CSO, “While the volume of sales for Bars increased almost four-fold in December compared to November, it represented just over one-third of the volume of sales in December 2019”.

Final figures for November indicate that bar sales volumes were down 92.2% on the previous November figure while they were 67.9% down on the October 2020 figure. Bar sales values were 92.0% down in November compared to November 2019 while they were down 68.1% on the previous month, October 2020.

Across the three-month period, October to December, bar sales volumes were down 75.6% when compared to the same quarter in 2019 while bar sales volumes from October to December declined 54.2% when compared to the July to September quarter. During the October to December quarter bar sales values were down 75.1% when compared to the same period in 2019 and they were down 54.1% compared to the previous three-month period July to September.

December’s bar sales were 62.4% down on figures for February according to the CSO.

Overall, seasonally-adjusted general retail sales volumes were up 14.3% in December over November and they were up 8.2% on an annual basis.
