Consumer prices in Ireland rise by 0.1% for October 2024 – CSO

The latest flash estimates published by the Central Statistics Office reveal a slight increase in Ireland's inflation rate, with energy prices dropping significantly while food costs continue to climb

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has recently published the flash estimates of inflation from the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for Ireland for October 2024. 

The EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for Ireland is estimated to have increased by 0.1% in the 12 months to October 2024 and grown by 0.3% since September 2024.

This compares with HICP inflation of 0.0% in Ireland in the 12 months to September 2024 and an annual increase of 1.7% in the HICP for the Eurozone in the same period.

Looking at the components of the flash HICP for Ireland in October 2024, energy prices are estimated to have grown by 0.3% in the month and decreased by 13.5% within the 12 months to October 2024.

The HICP excluding energy and unprocessed food is estimated to have risen by 1.7% since October 2023.

Anthony Dawson, statistician in the Prices Division, Central Statistics Office, said: “Looking at the components of the flash HICP in Ireland for October 2024, energy prices are estimated to have increased by 0.3% in the month and decreased by 13.5% since October 2023. The HICP excluding energy and unprocessed food prices is estimated to have risen by 1.7% since October 2023.

“Food prices are estimated to have increased by 0.4% in the last month and grown by 1.8% in the last 12 months. Transport costs fell by 0.8% in the month and decreased by 2.4% in the 12 months to October 2024.”
