Competition highlights importance of pacing our drinking

The importance of pacing our alcohol intake will be highlighted at the 11am launch of the 2013 DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie competition today at the Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfield, Dublin 7.

DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie – now in its sixth year – a film and multimedia competition for third-level students, is organised by drinkaware.ie.  For the competition, students are invited to develop film and interactive multimedia projects that promote the responsible use of alcohol while at the same time challenging anti-social drinking behaviours. For the 2013 competition, students will be invited to submit entries on the theme ‘pacing our drinking’.

Commenting in advance of the launch, Fionnuala Sheehan, Chief Executive of drinkaware.ie, said, “Recent figures have shown that although Irish people drink less frequently than their European counterparts, they drink far more on any one drinking occasion.  Students are a particular group associated with such excessive-drinking. On Monday, we’ll be outlining how, by pacing our drinking, we can get more out of our nights and weekends.  These are issues we’re hoping students themselves will highlight in their entries to DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie 2013.”

Fionnuala Sheehan, will be joined for a photocall at the launch by the winners of last year’s DARE2BEDRINKAWARE.ie competition. Further information about the competition is available at www.DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie.
