Cask’s Carl in European Top 3

World Class Irish Bartender of the Year Carl D’Alton won third place in Europe as best bartender and ranked 12th in the world at the Diageo World Class Global Final in Berlin earlier last week.

Carl, from Cask in Cork, competed head-to-head against 55 of the world’s best bartenders in a series of complex challenges over the four-day final.

Over 10,000 bartenders from every corner of the globe entered the competition which spanned five continents, six months, hundreds of challenges and countless cocktails. The overall winner, judged by some of the industry’s most influential figures, was Orlando Marzo of Melbourne restaurant Lûmé.

The global Top 4 consisted of Orlando, the UK’s Daniel Warren, Laura Newman from the US and Gökhan Kuşoğlu from Turkey.

Carl impressed judges by showcasing his skill and creativity through his unique style of crafting cocktails with locally-foraged Irish ingredients. In Cask, Carl and the team use seasonal ingredients and change their menu every 12 weeks. They push to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, which prepared Carl for the global stage.
