August bar values 11.4% up on July

Sales volumes in bars were much the same last August as they were in the same month a year ago according to provisional seasonally-adjusted figures from the Central Statistics Office, while values rose 2.1%.
Final figures for July indicate a decrease in sales volumes in bars of 8.9% compared to July 2018 while values fell 6.6%.

However this August’s bar sales volumes were up 10.6% on the previous month, July, while values were up 11.4%.

Last Summer’s excellent weather played a part here but bar sales volumes for July this year were still 8.1% down on the previous month, June, while July’s Bar Sales values fell 8.0% compared to June.

Over the three-month period June to August bar sales volumes showed a decline of 3.5% on the same period in 2018 while values fell 1.0%. When this quarter is compared to the previous March to May period this year bar volumes show a decline of 0.7% while values rose 0.6%.

The general volume of retail sales increased 5.7% in August when compared to July on a seasonally-adjusted provisional basis and increased by 2.1% on an annual basis.
