9.8% fall in off-trade wine prices

Off-trade alcohol prices fell by 4.6% in the year to August according to CSO figures which show a 1.8% fall in prices in August compared to the previous month, July.

The annual fall comprised a 0.6% fall in off-trade spirits prices, a 9.8% fall in wine prices and a 1.3% rise in beer prices.

The monthly 1.8% fall in prices comprised a 1.9% fall in spirits prices, a 2.5% fall in wine prices and a 0.7% fall in beer prices.

Prices in licensed premises showed growth of 2.9% over the year, comprising a 3.3% increase in spirits prices, a 2.3% increase in wine prices, a 2.9% increase in beer prices and a 2.8% increase in soft drinks and mineral water prices.

Compared to the previous month, July, prices in licensed premises were up by just 0.3%, comprising a rise of 0.3% in spirits prices, a 0.1% rise in wine prices, a 0.2% rise in beer prices and a 0.5% rise in soft drinks and mineral water prices.

Overall alcohol prices rose by 0.8% in the year to August. CSO Figures show a 0.4% fall in alcohol prices compared to the previous month, July, but a rise in price of 0.3% if the three-month period June to August is compared with the same period in 2016.

Nightclub admission charges fell by 3.5% in the year to August and level-pegged with the previous month, July 2017.
