Music encourages customer spend

The majority of pub and restaurant owners believe that playing music in a pub or restaurant environment encourages customers to stay longer and spend more.

Recently-conducted independent research from IMRO into the benefits of music in the workplace as perceived by Irish business-owners indicates that some 76% of pub and restaurant owners believe music helps lengthen the stay and increases the overall spend of consumers in their premises.

The survey of business owners found 56% believe music adds value to a business with 53% seeing an increase in the likelihood of customers returning if music is used in their business.

And a majority of business leaders (58%) believe that music contributes to creating a positive atmosphere for employees, customers and clients – improving the perception of their business.

Some 67% or two-thirds of business owners believe that everybody involved in the music creation process should get paid when their music is used in public.

The survey also found 63% of business owners use music in their business with mid-sized companies more likely to use music at 68%.

“These findings are very positive and demonstrate the value and power of music in business,” commented IMRO’s Director of Licensing Brendan Griffin, “This independent study was carried out by iReach Insights and some of the key findings from this research attest to the great value that business-owners place on the use of music in their business.”
