Sky takes 2 more licensees to court

Hot on the heels of three previous court cases here in Ireland, Sky has taken another two publicans to court over illegal showing of Sky content on their premises.

County Mayo’s Village Inn in was ordered to pay €6,048 in damages for breaching copyright in showing Sky Sports on the premises without the correct commercial viewing agreement from Sky. A court order which prohibits the licensee from showing Sky programming in the premises without the correct commercial viewing agreement from Sky Business has also been granted.

In a separate case, the licensee of TJ Gibbons bar, also in County Mayo, has admitted to breaching Sky’s copyright and has been required to provide an undertaking to the Court which prohibits the showing Sky programming in the premises without the correct agreement being in place.

The remainder of the proceedings were settled out of court between the parties and involved the licensee agreeing to an undisclosed sum in damages for breach of copyright.
