September off-trade prices fall 3.7%

Alcohol prices overall dropped 0.5% in the year to the end of September according to CSO figures.

They level-pegged with August prices and the July-September quarter was 0.2% down compared to the previous April-June quarter.

Off-trade prices for alcohol fell 3.7% in the 12 months to the end of September comprising a 6.0% fall in wine prices and a 1.9% fall in beer prices. Off-trade spirits prices level-pegged with those of the previous September.

Compared to the previous month, August, spirits prices were up 1.8%, wine prices were down 0.5% and beer prices down 0.1%.

On-trade prices for licensed premises rose 0.8% in September compared with September 2015. This comprised a 1.3% rise in spirits prices, a 0.9% rise in wine prices, a 0.6% rise in beer prices and a 1.1% rise in soft drinks & mineral water prices.

Prices in licensed premises were up 0.1% in September compared to August comprising a 0.2% rise in spirits prices and a 0.1% rise in prices for wine, beer and soft drinks & mineral waters.

Nightclub admission prices rose 2.3% in the year to September and they rose 1.0% on the August prices.
