Revenue seizes nearly €45m in illicit drugs during August 2024

Revenue officers have confiscated nearly €45 million worth of illicit drugs throughout August 2024, pushing the total for the year to almost €170 million, marking a substantial increase from last year

During the course of August 2024, Revenue officers have seized illicit drugs worth almost €45 million. 

This brings the total value of drugs seized by Revenue up to 31 August 2024 to almost €170 million, a significant increase from approximately €75 million worth of drugs seized in the same period during 2023. 

In addition, Revenue officers have seized more than €3 million worth of cocaine and herbal cannabis at Dublin Airport in recent days.

Revenue invite media to attend a joint briefing with An Garda Síochána at Dublin Airport, on Friday 13 September 2024. 

Michael Gilligan, head of Customs in Revenue’s Dublin Airport Frontier Management Branch, and superintendent Darren McCarthy from An Garda Síochána, will be in attendance.

Further details in relation to the recent seizures at Dublin Airport, together with the follow up investigations being conducted by An Garda Síochána, will be discussed during this briefing.
