Revenue seize alcohol worth €1m at Dublin Port
Since the beginning of November, as a result of risk profiling, Revenue officers seized 207,369 litres of alcohol, with an estimated value of €1,094,751, at Dublin Port.
The illicit alcohol consisted of approximately 174,744 litres of beer and represented a loss to the Exchequer of almost €326,334. It also consisted of approximately 32,625 litres of wine and represented a loss to the Exchequer of €212,976.
The consignment was seized when Revenue officers stopped and searched nine containers that arrived from Rotterdam.
Other seizures
This past week, week commencing 18 November 2024, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of €320,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midland and Rosslare.
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and included the following:
- approximately 13.5kgs of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €270,000
- over 1kg of amphetamine, with an estimated value of €15,000;
- 200g of cocaine, with an estimated value of €14,000;
- various quantities of other illicit drugs, with a combined value of approximately €2,000;
- 11,660 cigarettes, of assorted brands, with an estimated value of €10,500 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €8,300; and
- over 193 litres of alcohol, with an estimated value of €8,533 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €2,600.
The illegal drugs were discovered, with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Grace & Ciara, in parcels that originated in the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Thailand, Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Poland. The parcels were destined for various addresses nationwide.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
