Restaurant card spend jumps 30%

Card spend in restaurants was up by 30% in July this year compared to July 2020 according to Central Bank figures.

Consumers in restaurants spent €397.2 million via cards in July compared to €304.4 million in July 2020. For the second consecutive month spending was greater than the corresponding month in 2019, states the Central Bank. Entertainment spending also experienced strong growth of 11%, or €21 million.

And the latest daily data to the 23rd of August shows continued strong growth in spending, particularly in the accommodation, restaurant and transport sectors.
