June’s card restaurant/dining spend up 92%

Spending on debit & credit cards in the restaurant sector was particularly strong in June according to the Central Bank, with card spend on restaurants/dining up 92% to €332.1 million from June 2020's figure of €173.3 million as restrictions on hospitality services were eased.

 

The restaurants/dining sector saw an increase in card spend of 41% for June compared to the previous month, May.

The restaurants/dining sector saw an increase in card spend of 41% for June compared to the previous month, May, which witnessed a card spend of €234.7 million as outdoor dining recommenced.

Overall, social spending rose by 24% compared to May, driven by an incrase in restaurant spending as outdoor dining recommenced in early June while spending in the enteratinment sector increased by a more modest 5%.
