January bar sales up 500% on 2021

Bar sales volumes in January were up by just under 500% when compared to January 2021 according to CSO figures, while values showed growth of 517%.

However bar sales volumes rose by just 3.2% in January over the preceding month, December 2021, while bar sales values were up by just 5.2% on December.

Again here, January’s bar sales volumes were 42.3% down on those in January 2020 – the largest decrease in volume of any retail commodity in the CSO’s January table – while values were down 38.3%.

Over the three-month period November 2021 to January 2022 bar sales volumes were up 237% on the same period in 2020-2021 while values were up 234%.

Compared to the previous quarter – August to October 2021 – bar sales volumes were down 23.8% with values down 24.2%.

The overall volume of retail sales was down 1.5% in January.
