January bar sales down

Retail sales volumes in bars fell 3.0% in January and by 1.4% in value compared to January 2019 according to seasonally-adjusted provisional figures from the CSO just published.

 

January’s Bar sales were down 2.9% in volume on December 2019 while values fell 4.1%.

Final figures for December show Bar sales down 1.9% by volume and by 0.3% in value compared to December 2018.

Compared to the previous month, November, December’s sales were down 0.2% in volume and 0.3% in value.

Across the three-month period November to January Bar sales showed a decline of 2.5% in volume and 0.9% in value.

When this three-month period is compared with the immediately preceding three months August to October, Bar sales volumes declined 0.4% while values were down 1.3%.

By comparison, general retail sales volumes were up by 3.7% in January compared to January 2019 but they were down by 3.4% compared to December 2019 while retail sales values showed an annual value increase of 3.5% set against a monthly decrease of 1.4% when compared to the previous month, December.
