€15,500 of alcohol seized in Dublin Port

Excise revenue officers seized almost 1,250 litres of undeclared alcohol when, acting on intelligence, they searched a container that arrived into Dublin Port from Portugal yesterday.

The smuggled alcohol, 1,084 litres of wine and 164 litres of beer, has a retail value of more than €15,500 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €7,500.

Just two weeks ago, also acting on intelligence received, Revenue officers searched a truck as it arrived into Dublin from Holyhead and uncovered more than 600 litres of undeclared alcohol – 200 litres of beer and 408 litres of wine – with a retail value of over €6,700 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €3,300. A man in his 40s was questioned and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
