BrewDog put up for sale amid struggles

Scottish craft brewer behind Punk IPA launches sale process that could see assets broken up and new owners sought

BrewDog, the Scottish‑based brewer and pub operator known for brands such as Punk IPA, Hazy Jane and Elvis Juice, has initiated a formal sale process, according to Sky News, as it navigates a challenging economic climate and evolving market conditions.

BrewDog Cork represents the seventh venue operated by Westside Leisure who've been running bars across the Cork city for 40 years.

The board has appointed restructuring specialists AlixPartners to oversee a competitive review, sounding out potential buyers or investors for the business or parts of its operations.

The move comes after a period of financial pressure, including reported losses, cost‑cutting measures and the closure of distilling assets, prompting BrewDog to prioritise long‑term sustainability and operational efficiency.

Sources indicate the sale could involve different components of the business, from brewing facilities in Scotland, the US, Australia and Germany to its network of bars and venues, which may be sold separately depending on interest.

Founded in 2007, BrewDog helped popularise craft beer in the UK and beyond and built a devoted following through its “Equity for Punks” crowdfunding initiative.

Despite the potential sale, the company says its breweries, pubs and venues will continue to operate normally during the process.

For retailers and drinks professionals, the sale marks a notable shift for one of the craft beer sector’s most prominent and disruptive brands.
