Bewley’s to host summer wine tasting series

A Portuguese wine tasting will take place on May 31, followed by themes focusing on the Mediterranean, hidden gems of Europe, summer and American wines

Bewley’s Grafton Street will hold a series of summer wine tastings between May and September

A wine expert on a mission to end the ‘jargon and stuffiness’ of wine tastings is to host a series of summer events in the iconic surroundings of Bewley’s Grafton Street.

Following two successful wine tasting evenings in Bewley’s, Sevgi Tüzel-Conghaile will host a summer wine tasting series across five evenings between May and September.

She will host a Portuguese wine tasting on May 31, followed by themes focusing on the Mediterranean, hidden gems of Europe, summer and American wines.

Originally from Turkey and now based in Dublin, Sevgi is determined to make wine more accessible to the public.

“I have dedicated my life to wine and have spent time as a winemaker, wine scholar, wine educator and wine consultant,” said Sevgi, who also teaches a wine appreciation course at Griffith College.

“Currently, I run A Wine Idea, which is a Dublin based wine-centric business that specialises in wine tasting events and wine education.

“My aim is to remove the jargon and old-fashioned stuffiness of wine tastings by balancing learning and having fun.”

The expert aims to host relaxed evenings in the iconic Bewley’s location, to encourage confidence in attendees when they discuss wine.

“We try to focus on creating a comfortable and inclusive experience for everyone.

“I introduce four wines per event, so attendees will leave with a bit more wine knowledge, but I also give them time to mingle, converse and enjoy the wine and cheeseboards.”

The summer series will be held on the first floor of Bewley’s Grafton Street, with spaces for approximately 30 people per event.

“I feel very lucky to have teamed up with Bewley’s because its central location makes it easy to travel to and even easier for people to continue their night after the tasting,” she said.

“Bewley’s Grafton Street has always been more than just a café,” said Felix Campbell, Bewley’s Events Manager.

“We’re proud to be a hub of community, culture and conversation from morning to evening and this wine tasting series is an exciting addition to our summer calendar.”

Bewley’s Grafton Street wine tastings can be booked for €65 per person at: https://www.awineidea.ie/wine-tasting-ireland/.
