Alcohol beverage prices down 1.2% on 2014

The price of alcohol overall fell by 1.2% in August compared with August last year according to CSO figures.

However alcohol prices rose by 0.1% in the three months since June but remained on a par with prices in the previous month, July.

In the off-trade, alcohol prices fell by 3.8% in the year to August comprising a drop in price of 1.2% for spirits, 4.2% for wine and 4.0% for beer.

Compared to the previous month off-trade alcohol prices fell 0.1% comprising a fall of 0.1% in spirits prices, a fall of 0.3% in wine and 0.2% in beer prices.

On-trade prices rose 0.2% in the year comprising a 0.3% increase in wine and spirit prices, a 0.1% rise in beer prices and a 0.4% rise in soft drinks & mineral water prices.

Compared to the previous month, July, August’s prices remained on par in licensed premises with a 0.1% increase in wine and spirit prices and a 0.2% rise in soft drinks & mineral water prices.
