Mount Gay has recently announced the launch of Mount Gay Bajan Spiced, an innovative and sophisticated new spirit drink set to redefine the spiced category.
Building on over 320 years of unparalleled heritage and pioneering spirit, Bajan Spiced marks Mount Gay’s first foray into this segment, crafted for the discerning palate of today’s cocktail enthusiast, the ‘world’s oldest’ operating rum distillery noted.
‘Spirit drink’
At 35% ABV, Mount Gay Bajan Spiced is classified as a ‘spirit drink’, a deliberate choice made to unlock its full flavour potential.
“Our dedicated research revealed that 35% is the ideal balance for our recipe,” explains master blender Trudiann Branker, who led the meticulous experimentation and refinement process.
“At this strength, alcohol notes are softened, allowing the subtle notes of our unique flavours to shine through fora smoother, more flavourful drinking experience, also making it more approachable for those who are new to mixing spirits.
“We really wanted to capture the vibrant spirit of Barbados in a bottle.
“That’s why we focused on a rich and unique blend of locally inspired ingredients.
“You’ll discover a beautiful warmth from Barbadian ginger, but what makes it truly special is the bright, zesty burst of grapefruit that adds a layer of complexity you won’t find in other spiced rums.

‘Pioneering spirit’
A first for Mount Gay, the brand highlights that introducing a new pioneering spirit has however always been a cornerstone of its philosophy.

A ‘symphony’ of Bajan flavours
Mount Gay Bajan Spiced is a mix of authentic Mount Gay rum, infused with the essence of Barbados.
It offers a ‘vibrant and complex sensory journey’.
Nose: An inviting aroma of fresh orange peel and warm, festive spices like cinnamon and allspice, underpinned by a subtle floral, almost tea-like, note.
Palate: A zesty burst of grapefruit leads the way, mingling with the underlying sweetness of fresh-pressed cane juice. This evolves into something more complex, reminiscent of stewed tropical fruits with a persistent, gentle spice.
Finish: A wonderfully clean and warming conclusion, leaving a lingering tingle of spice and a whisper of citrus zest.
According to the brand, ‘the label itself is a vibrant celebration of Barbadian heritage, featuring illustrations of key ingredients and flavours like grapefruit, ginger, orange, and cinnamon, alongside native flora and a hummingbird, capturing the island’s scenic beauty’.

The foundation of Bajan Spiced is always authentic Mount Gay rum.
While the ginger and Mount Gay estate sugar are proudly sourced locally in Barbados, other 100% natural flavours-including red grapefruit, cinnamon, and sweet orange-are meticulously selected from a trusted supplier in the USA to achieve the desired flavour profile, it added.
“Our story has always been rooted in the soil and culture of Barbados,” Branker added.” In crafting Mount Gay Bajan Spiced, our first choice is always to use local ingredients.
“We are proud to source our ginger locally and incorporate our estate sugar, further connecting our spirit to the rich resources of our island. As local agriculture expands, we will continue to prioritize sourcing our ingredients from Barbados.”

Ingredients:
- 45ml Mount Gay Bajan Spiced
- 80ml Ginger Beer
- 15ml fresh grapefruit juice garnish: Grapefruit wedge
Method:
- Fill a highball glass with plenty of ice
- Pour in Mount Gay Bajan Spiced (45ml) and grapefruit juice (15ml)
- Top with ginger beer (approx. 80ml)
- Stir gently and garnish with a fresh wedge of grapefruit
Launch and availability
Mount Gay Bajan Spiced had its exclusive world premiere in the UK in March 2026.
Following this initial launch, it has now been introduced to a hand-picked selection of key markets throughout Europe and beyond, with a deliberate, phased approach to ensure a truly special introduction.
Mount Gay Bajan Spiced is the newest member of the Mount Gay family.
