Good food-led pubs sell more wine

While pubs might be losing their share of wine sales by channel, LVA Chief Executive Donall O’Keefe believes that in food-led businesses, wine will gain share and volume sales.

“I’d say that for progressive publicans, the opportunity to sell wine – particularly mid-week – in low energy, relaxed occasions, has potential – particularly for females,” he told Drinks Industry Ireland.

“The quality of your wine makes a statement about your pub and this, along with the quality of your glassware, gives an impression of quality,” he added.

But in the main, he agreed, it would be food-led pubs that would benefit from increased sales of wine.
