Revenue seize €174,400 worth of contraband

Revenue officers have seized contraband worth over €174,400 in intelligence-led operations across Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort

Revenue officers have recently seized contraband with an estimated value of over €174,400 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.

Revenue officials conducted 1,808 alcohol seizures last year, totalling 764,174 litres of counterfeit alcohol worth €4.17 million.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, and included the following:

  • 6.4 kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €128,575.
  • 2, 536 of assorted tablets, with an estimated value of over €4,990.
  • Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €1,600.
  • Tobacco products, with an estimated value of almost €2,580, and representing a potential loss to the exchequer of almost €1,910.
  • Over 653 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of over €8,190, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of over €4,510.
  • 70 counterfeit items with an estimated value of over €28,460.

The herbal cannabis and illicit drug seizures were made as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dogs Sam & Ciara.

The parcels were destined for various addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

Ten weapons were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
