A new chapter for McSorley’s in Ranelagh

Introducing ‘Upstairs at McSorley’s – a new piano and cocktail bar experience

Grand Slam Bars, the team behind some of Dublin’s most successful hospitality venues, is bringing a fresh new energy to one of Ranelagh’s best-loved pubs.

Located above the familiar surroundings of the pub, Upstairs at McSorley’s offers a refined late-night experience designed to complement Ranelagh’s social scene

McSorley’s, a cornerstone of the local community for more than 20 years, is entering an exciting new phase for Grand Slam Bars under the direction of Noel Anderson, Tony McCabe and former Irish international rugby players Jamie Heaslip, Rob Kearney, Sean O’Brien and Dave Kearney.

The group, known for creating standout venues including The Bridge 1859, The Blackrock, Lemon & Duke and Little Lemon, now adds another distinctive offering to its growing portfolio.

This next chapter introduces Upstairs at McSorley’s, an intimate new piano bar experience, alongside a carefully refurbished downstairs cocktail bar that enhances the original pub without losing its character.

Introducing ‘Upstairs at McSorley’s’

Located above the familiar surroundings of the pub, Upstairs at McSorley’s offers a refined late-night experience designed to complement Ranelagh’s social scene.

The space blends premium cocktails, from perfectly executed classics to standout house creations, designed to be enjoyed alongside a curated menu of elegant small plates while live piano performances set the tone every Friday and Saturday night.

Guests can enjoy dishes such as Furikake Sambal Fries (€7), Cacio e Pepe Bonbons (€10) and Char Siu Pork Belly (€11), each crafted to complement the drinks offering and elevate the overall experience.

The cocktail menu features all the favourites you would expect, alongside inventive signature serves and a thoughtfully developed selection of non-alcoholic options, ensuring something for every guest. Evenings begin with relaxed, soulful music before building into upbeat classics, creating an atmosphere that moves effortlessly from sophisticated to celebratory as the night unfolds.

Designed as an intimate and versatile venue, Upstairs at McSorley’s is ideal for after dinner drinks, special occasions and private events.

The space is also available for exclusive hire, offering a distinctive setting for corporate gatherings, birthdays and celebrations.

Speaking about the relaunch, Noel Anderson said: “McSorley’s has always had a strong identity and a loyal community around it.

“Our goal was never to change what people love about it, but to build on that foundation.

“With Upstairs at McSorley’s, we are introducing a new experience that brings something fresh to Ranelagh, while making sure the heart and character of the pub downstairs remain exactly as they should be.

“We are incredibly proud to have added McSorley’s to our portfolio and excited for people to experience this next chapter.”

A refresh downstairs

While the upstairs concept brings something entirely new, the downstairs bar has undergone its first significant refurbishment in over two decades.

The renovation introduces a dedicated cocktail bar and subtle design upgrades, all delivered with a light touch to preserve the warmth and familiarity that have defined McSorley’s for years.

Regulars will still recognise the pub they know, now enhanced with a refreshed look and elevated drinks offering.

With this relaunch, McSorley’s evolves from neighbourhood favourite to multi layered destination.

Guests can enjoy the comfort of a traditional pub downstairs or step upstairs for a more elevated cocktail and live music experience.

Rob Kearney commented, “McSorley’s has always been a special place in Ranelagh and we were very conscious of respecting that history.

“With the addition of Upstairs at McSorley’s, we wanted to create something that feels exciting and fresh, while still keeping the authenticity that makes the pub what it is.

“It is about giving people more reasons to come through the doors, whether that is for a great pint downstairs or a brilliant night upstairs.”

Upstairs at McSorley’s will be soft-launching on Thursday, 5 March.
