A promotion by Tribe Nightclub (formerly Burn), Stillorgan, was found in breach of the MEAS Code of Practice on the Naming, Packaging and Promotion of Alcoholic Drinks recently following complaints from members of the public.
The advertisement, which appeared on Tribe Nightclub’s facebook page on 26th March 2010, stated, ‘Buy 1 get 1 free. Drinks launch’s this Friday at Tribe Payday, Friday 26th   Buy any drink and get the 2nd free of charge a ll night    For table bookings or birthday parties call 087-0501879 or email davy@tribenc.ie   Doors at 11pm     Tribe Night Club, 2 venues in 1….. Giving South Dublin a new clubbing experience….. Over 20’s’.

The independent Complaints Panel noted that when informed of the allegation, no response was made by Tribe Nightclub.
The Panel considered the phrase “Buy any Drink and Get the 2nd Free of Charge all Night” as indicating that the promotion was available throughout the trading day and that as a result patrons would be provided with double the amount of alcohol they paid for.
The Panel concluded that the promotion by Tribe Nightclub was likely to encourage alcohol misuse and anti-social behaviour and therefore was in breach of the MEAS Code.
