Silver & Bronze for Sliabh Liag

Donegal’s Sliabh Liag Distillery has won a Silver and Bronze Award at the Berlin International Spirits Competition.

Located on the Wild Atlantic Way in the northwest of Ireland, Sliabh Liag Distillery is Donegal’s first distillery in almost 180 years. It was recognised for its An Dúlamán Irish Maritime Gin (Silver) and Silkie Irish Whiskey (Bronze). This is the only international spirits competition judged by trade buyers. Medals were awarded on merit by a majority vote and were only given to spirits that trade buyers would import, distribute, buy or sell in their businesses based on product and price category.

The competition featured over 300 spirits submitted from over 19 countries and Sliabh Liag Distillery was also awarded Irish Distillery of the Year.

Earlier this month VDS was appointed as UK distributor for the two brands.

According to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association there gin sales rose to £1.3bn in 2017 and the demand for interesting gins made by small scale craft and artisan producers has driven a near 20% rise.

Sliabh Liag’s brands are now stocked in the UK and the distillery has also secured distribution in Germany, South Africa and UAE.
