September Bar sales volumes down 2%

Retail sales volumes in bars were down 2.1% in the year to September according to seasonally-adjusted provisional figures from the CSO. However bar sales volumes were up 1.7% on the previous month, August.

Bar sales values were also down (by 0.5%) in the year to September although they were up 1.1% on August.

Final bar sales volume figures for August show a decline of 2.8% on August 2018 but a 7.2% rise on the previous month, July.

Sales values were similarly down for the year by 1.0% although they were up 8.0% on July’s figures.

Across the three months July to September Bar sales volumes were down 4.4% on the same quarter in 2018, with values down 2.5%.

Compared to the immediately previous April to June period Bar sales volumes were down 0.9% while values remained the same.

Seasonally-adjusted retail sales volumes generally increased in September by 4.2% on an annual basis while they showed growth of 4.3% on August, the previous month.

When Motor Trades are excluded, retail sales volumes were up 4.7% when compared to September 2018 and up 2.3% on the previous month.
