Scotland set for Minimum Price law

The implementation of a Minimum Pricing scheme now seems inevitable for Scotland as talks get underway in Holyrood House over the next few weeks among the different parties in the Scottish Parliament.

However the talks are likely to be clouded by conflict with brewers, distillers and the EU, not to mention the UK government itself as the SNP makes use of its one-seat majority at Holyrood to push the new arrangement through, possibly by April next year.

The Scotch Whisky Association has argued that Minimum Pricing would damage scotch exports, one of Scotland’s biggest earners and lobbying is now taking place at Westminster by distillers and brewers against the prospect.
