Sale of Alcohol Bill kicked to 2013

The Sale of Alcohol Bill appears to have been postponed once again.

Due to have come before the Dail this year, comments made by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny recently suggest that it will be “some time away” instead. It’s now believed that the Bill is unlikely to see the light of day before the middle of 2013.

The Taoiseach was responding to concerns from Labour TD Robert Dowds about delays in the Bill who asked, “The Taoiseach reminded us that around 2,000 hospital beds are occupied as a result of alcohol abuse, so could this be introduced sooner?”.

The Taoiseach responded that the Cabinet Sub-Committee on social policy is dealing with the “massive project” of alcohol-related issues at present.
