Prices up 1.2% in on-trade

The price of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco rose 3.2 per cent in the year to April but decreased by 0.9 per cent when compared to March.

Alcoholic Beverage & Tobacco prices were among the main factors contributing to the monthly change were prices here decreased mainly due to lower prices for wine sold in off-licences and supermarkets.

Overall alcohol prices fell 0.5 per cent in April compared to March and by 0.1 per cent over the three months February to April with a 0.3 per cent increase in the 12 month period.

In the off-trade, alcoholic beverage prices fell by 1.8 per cent in the month comprising a 3.6 per cent fall in wine prices, a 0.3 per cent fall in beer prices and a 0.5 per cent increase in spirits prices.

Over the course of the year alcoholic beverage prices in the off-trade fell by 2.2 per cent comprising a 3.1 per cent fall in spirits prices, a 0.1 per cent rise in wine prices and a 3.7 per cent fall in beer prices.

On-trade prices showed a 1.2 per cent increase overall for the year comprising a 1.7 per cent increase in spirits prices, a 0.9 per cent increase in wine prices, a 1.2 per cent increase in beer prices and a 0.6 per cent increase in soft drinks and mineral waters prices.

The monthly changes indicate a 0.1 per cent price decline in the on-trade comprising a decrease in wine prices of 0.2 per cent and a decrease of 0.1 per cent for soft drinks and mineral waters.
