New Retro Games Bar in Cork

They don’t come much more gamey than Urban Rewind, the newest bar in Cork’s city centre, which opened its’ doors to the public recently and is trying something reasonably new to establish footfall.

Located on the ground floor of the Mardyke Entertainment Complex, this retro games bar has a distinct underground feel to it as the premises comprises the old wine vaults of the Woodford Bourne (previously a bonded warehouse). The low-vaulted red-brick ceilings, dark windowless interiors and rustic floors and upholstery all contribute to an urban, grunge feeling in this retro bar, claims the owner Eddie Nicholson.

The first ping pong bar in Ireland offers other retro games such as foosball, air hockey, shuffleboard, darts and American pool alongside the more cerebral Chess, Checkers, Backgammon and Scrabble.

The bar staff are well-versed with the selection of over 50 foreign beers and can offer customers samples of any of the foreign beers on draught. There are weekly beer promotions – the current deal, for example, is five bottles of foreign beer for €15.  Wine is served by the carafe with shooters and long drinks also available.

Weekly organised games nights (Tuesday is ping pong, Thursday is Shuffleboard and Sunday is Darts) welcome everyone to come along and pay a simple entry fee with the winner taking the pot.
