Keep ‘em on!

You have to hand it to The Geezers, a group of pensioners from East London who’re not afraid to get their kit off to raise awareness about disappearing pubs.

Over the last 20 years the group reckon they’ve lost 92 pubs in their local community of Bow and have mounted a campaign entitled ‘Where’s my boozer gone?’ to highlight the plight of the local hostelry.

The OAPs have put together a nude ‘Calendar Boys’ which is guaranteed to raise a smile.

It features them in typical OAP postures coyly playing pub games such as pool, cribbage or shove ha’penny… starkers.

But there’s a more serious reason behind their Geezers’ wheeze. The Geezers aim to use the publicity to highlight the increasing isolation of elderly people as more pubs and other meeting places have to close their doors.

“It’s not just about the booze” explained Chief Geezer Ray Gibson, “we’re losing our heritage; the architecture and décor, the traditional games and sports played in pubs and the local history that has been passed down though the generations.”

According to one report in the UK trade magazine Publicans Morning Advertiser recently, “The pubs have been turned into posh flats,” commented Ray.

Any proceeds from the calendar sales will be re-invested in community projects to support the elderly.

The Geezers’ A3-size calendar would hang nicely (ahem..) in your public bar perhaps?

It’s available on Amazon at £8 (including P&P).
