Gold Medal for Porterhouse Plain

The Porterhouse Brewing Company has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Industry International Awards - ‘The Brewing Oscars’ - which took place in Burton-Upon-Trent recently, where Plain Porter came up trumps a second time after winning the award in 1998.

The winning stout in the dark beer category, Plain Porter, has an ABV of 4.2 per cent.

The Awards were instigated in 1886 and are the oldest awards in international brewing.?Masterbrewer at The Porterhouse Peter Mosley said, “We’re delighted to have won this award again. The judges must have realised, when you’re feeling tired and wan, a pint of plain is yer’ only man — with due deference to Flan O’Brien”. The awards ceremony itself took place in Guild Hall in City of London where medals were presented to the winners.

The Porterhouse began brewing in its Temple Bar microbrew-pub in 1996. In the last few years the Porterhouse Group moved to a larger brewery in Ballycoolin due to increased demand for its product with demand from the US now oustripping domestic demand (see http://www.drinksindustryireland.ie/article.aspx?id=2123).
