drinkaware.ie showcases new diary at Limerick Uni
“This diary has been redesigned to give the user greater feedback as well as customised hints, tips and recommendations based on the number of drinks they input,” explained drinkaware.ie’s Chief Executive Fionnuala Sheehan, “Similar to Google analytics, the user will now be able to see a graph of their drinking and compare their drinking the previous week or month with low-risk limits. Once registered, users will also be able to calculate the cost of what they have drunk and the number of calories consumed over a given period.”
At the launch of the diary UL students had the opportunity to see how the new drinks diary works, see how many standard drinks are in their usual and take a quiz to see just how much they knew about alcohol and low-risk drinking limits. Students also had the opportunity to win an ipad, the perfect tool to help one lucky student access the diary on the go.
“The University of Limerick and particularly the UL Alcohol Policy Working Group working in collaboration with UL Student’s Union have been very supportive of drinkaware.ie,” added Fionnuala Sheehan.
Vivion Grisewood, Campaigns and Services Officer at UL Student Union, said, “It is more important than ever to inform students about alcohol and the potential damage it can cause. For most young people college is the first time they are exposed to alcohol in such a readily-available environment. This inexperience and peer pressure can be a dangerous cocktail. It’s brilliant to have such a great service from drinkaware.ie and in particular to have them come on campus, engage with students about drinking responsibly while expelling many of the myths attached to alcohol”.
UL Director of Student Affairs Dr Bernadette Walsh added that, “The message from UL during Alcohol Awareness Week is for students to be smart when it comes to drinking. Stay healthy and stay drinkaware”.
