Bar sales volumes up 3.2% in August

Sales volumes in bars increased 3.2 per cent in August compared to the previous month, July, according to provisional CSO retail sales figures published recently.

However they were down by 1.5 per cent over the year from last August.

August’s bar sales values were up 2.7 per cent on July 2012 although on the year itself they remained down by 0.1 per cent.
Final figures for July indicate that bar sales volumes fell 1.3 per cent on the June figure and by 11.3 per cent compared to July 2011. Bar sales values were also down 1.6 per cent on June 2012 and by 10.1 per cent on July 2011.

Over the three-month period June to August bar sales volumes were up 0.6 per cent on the previous March to May quarter but down 6.3 per cent on the period June to August in 2011. Sales values were up 0.7 per cent in the quarter compared with the previous quarter in 2012 but they fell by 5.1 per cent compared to the June to August period in 2011.

Excluding motor sales, retail sales volumes generally increased 0.1 per cent in August over July and by 0.4 per cent compared to August 2011.
