Anchormen in Toners
That same day a pub-crawling ‘Anchorman Fan Trail’ took place. Toners was one of the pubs included in that trail. To the fans’ surprise and delight, many got to meet the cast and have their picture taken with them.
Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Will Ferrell enjoyed a pint in the place along with owners Frank and Michael Quinn, whose pub recently hosted Mumford & Sons as part of the Arthur’s Day celebrations – and WB Yeats and Patrick Kavanagh (not so recently…).
In between, Toners has set the (Irish) scene for films such as A Fistful of Dynamite and played home regularly to actors such as the late Peter O’Toole.
On this most recent occasion, it seems that the Anchormen enjoyed their sojurn here, originally asking for some American beer only to be convinced that as Toners had the reputation for serving the best stout in the land, they should order four pints of Guinness instead.
This they did, with actor David Koechner asking what would be a good whiskey to chase these with – thus four Midleton Very Rares were produced.
It’s understood that the exercise was repeated four more times before the merry actors went on to their film premiere in Dublin’s city centre. Stout fellows!
