Alcohol prices up 9% in 2013

Alcoholic beverage prices rose by 9% in the year to December last year according to CSO figures with prices falling by 1.5% in December itself compared to the previous month, November.

Over the course of the year Spirits prices rose by 10.2%, Wine rose by 10.5% and Beer prices went up by 5.9%.
In the on-trade, prices in Licensed Premises rose 4.2% comprising a rise in Spirits prices of 4.6%, Wine prices by 4.3%, Beer prices by 4.2% and Soft Drinks & Mineral Water prices by 1.9%.

Compared to the previous month, November, Licensed Premises prices were up only 0.2% comprising a rise of 0.1% in Spirits & Wine prices and a rise of 0.2% for Beer & Soft Drinks & Minerals.

Overall, alcohol prices in December rose 5.6% over the year but fell by 0.3% compared to November.

Over the three month period October to December overall alcohol prices rose by 1.3% compared to the previous three-month period.
