September’s Hospitality spend up 6.2%

Consumer spend rose 5.1% last month, slightly faster than August’s growth, with a sharp rise in spend recorded in the Hotels, Restaurants & Bars sector according to Visa’s Irish Consumer Spending Index on the Third Quarter of 2016.

The Hotels, Restaurants & Bars sector witnessed a 6.2% rise in year-on-year spending in September compared to a 0.6% year-on-year spend increase in August.

The Visa Index also recorded an acceleration in the rate of expansion in the Food & Beverages sector from 3.2% in August to 4.6% in September.

Overall, the Recreation and Culture sector saw a further strong increase in spend at 12.5% in September following a 12.4% increase in August.
