Patrick’s Day big for whiskey sales

As millions of people all over the world celebrated St Patrick’s Day this year, the days leading up to and including the celebration were also very busy ones for Irish whiskey sales.

About five million bottles of it were sold in 135 markets just during St Patrick’s week and in advance of the celebration the Irish Whiskey Association published an infographic highlighting this sales activity as well as outlining the latest 2018 CSO statistics which show export sales of €654 million (distillery-gate prices, not final retail prices) last year, up 13%.

“The week leading up to St Patrick’s Day is one of the busiest weeks worldwide for sales of Irish whiskey,” stated the Irish Whiskey Association Head William Lavelle.

The Association also recently extended its congratulations to Brendan Carty and the team at Killowen Distillery in County Down who held a special event to mark its coming on-stream as the 24th operational Irish whiskey distillery in the country.

Killowen Distillery will produce Irish Pot Still whiskey.
