Off-trade alcohol prices drop 6%

The price of alcoholic beverages dropped 6% in the off-trade in the year to the end of February according to CSO figures, with spirits prices falling by 1%, wine prices falling by 9.9% and beer prices dropping by 2.4%.

Compared to the previous month, January, alcoholic beverage prices fell 1.7% as did spirits prices. Wine prices fell 2.4% while beer prices dropped by 0.7%.

In the on-trade, prices rose by 1.3% in the year to the end of February, with spirits prices going up by 1.7%, wine by 1.4% and beer by 1.1%.

Compared to the previous month, January, the CSO’s February figures show a rise in prices of 0.2% comprising a 0.1% rise in spirits prices, a 0.3% rise in wine prices and a 0.1% rise in beer and in soft drinks & mineral water prices.
