Galway for IPG’s 2018 Gathering

The Irish Pubs Global Federation announced plans for its 2018 Gathering at an event in the 1520 Bar on Galway’s Quay Street recently.

The 2018 Gathering takes place in Galway from 7th–9th October and includes a conference for up to 500 international Irish pub operators. It also includes the annual Irish Pubs Global Awards Gala Dinner.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Famous For Food’, highlighting the importance of showcasing Irish food in Irish pubs and restaurants around the world. Over the course of the three-day event, delegates can take part in a series of interactive food-focused tours around the west of Ireland and enjoy locally-produced food and drink, learning how to incorporate new ideas, recipes and products into their businesses.

Since beginning the 2018 event plans last year, the 8,000 member-strong IPG has received huge support from businesses and organisations in Galway including Fáilte Ireland, Galway Convention Bureau, The Wild Atlantic Way and Connacht Hotel Group.

Galway has also been named European Region of Gastronomy for 2018, the first region in Ireland to be awarded this honour.

The annual Awards night takes place in the Galmont Hotel there and the welcome reception will see the event space transformed into an ‘Irish Market’ where attendees will sample some of the best food and drink the island of Ireland has to offer.

Public voting for the 2018 awards opens on 1st May and is open to Irish pubs and hospitality outlets worldwide. Last year, over 16,000 nominations were received.
