European beer exports 20% of production

Beer in Europe generates an estimated 2.3 million jobs throughout the value chain from grain to glass, with one job in a brewery generating on average a further 17 in supply, agriculture and European bars and restaurants.

Total consumer spend on beer in the EU was over €110 billion in 2014 with exports out of Europe now comprising around 20% of European beer production according to the Brewers of Europe, a multinational association which brings together national brewers’ associations from 29 European countries and which provides a voice to represent the united interests of Europe’s breweries.

With over 900 new breweries opening in the last two years, Europe’s brewing landscape now numbers over 6,500 breweries.

“Europe’s brewing world is changing fast with the combined trends of consolidation and the blossoming of small and medium-sized breweries,” commented Brewers of Europe President Pavlos Photiades.

Last year, under the stewardship of the previous Brewers of Europe President Demetrio Carceller, The Brewers of Europe ranked as the second-best-perceived European trade association in the field of consumer goods.

“Our commitment to equipping Europe’s consumers with ingredient and nutrition information has also helped to achieve this score,” Demetrio Carceller had explained.
