€15,400 alcohol seizure

Revenue officers in Dublin Port discovered over 480 litres of contraband alcohol hidden in a consignment of food in the refrigerated trailer of a Latvian-registered truck which had arrived from Rotterdam when they stopped and searched it recently.

The inspectors seized nearly 300 litres of vodka, 108 litres of liqueurs and 75 litres of wine. The vodka and liqueurs were Ukrainian brands ‘Hlebniy Dar’ and ‘Nemiroff’ while the wine was Moldovan, branded ‘Salcut’ and ‘Imperial Vin’.

The smuggled alcohol has a retail value of around €15,400 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €9,300. Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure was part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of alcohol in the shadow economy.
