Dead Rabbit gutted

The owners of the ‘Best Bar in the World’, Sean Muldoon & Jack McGarry, have vowed to rebuild New York’s Dead Rabbit following a fire which destroyed the four-storey bar and restaurant.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of the famous Irish pub which the pair opened in 2013.

The Dead Rabbit was voted the World’s Best Bar, topping the World’s 50 Best Bar Awards in London in 2016 and it also won eight Spirited Awards from Tales of the Cocktail.

The Lower Manhattan premises sustained extensive damage after the blaze ripped through the building early on Sunday morning, according to a report in the Belfast Telegraph and Sean Muldoon & Jack McGarry will have no option but to close down until further notice.

While there were no injuries and quick thinking by staff avoided more extensive damage, firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze while the full extent of the damage is assessed.

The pair are “fully committed to reopening as soon as possible and remediating any and all damage,” according to the Telegraph report.

“The Dead Rabbit is no stranger to adversity, having opened in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy,” commented Sean, “The bar will bounce back, a bit bruised perhaps, but unbowed and ready, willing and able to serve our guests. “
