Billy Lawless to open IPG 2016

Former VFI President, now Oireachtas Senator and US-based pub owner Billy Lawless will open this year’s Irish Pubs Global Gathering event in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin, from 26th – 28th September.

Former VFI President and currently an Oireachtas Senator and US publican Billy Lawless will deliver the opening address to this year’s Irish Pubs Global Conference at Over 600 owners, operators and staff from Irish pubs both in Ireland and around the world will attend the fifth IPG gathering event which includes a conference, trade exhibition and the annual Irish Pubs Global Awards in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin, from 26th – 28th September.

There are an estimated 7,000 Irish pubs worldwide and recent Tourism Ireland research shows that the humble Irish pub is rated as one of the top attractions for visitors to Ireland.

“The Irish Pub continues to enjoy iconic status around the world and the Irish Pubs Global Gathering is a chance for pub owners and staff to come together and celebrate this,” said entrepreneur and IPG President Enda O’Coineen, “It’s also a chance to share new ideas and innovations with peers. The essence of the Irish pub has never really changed but trends and customer expectations have and we need to adapt to these in order to survive in a very competitive industry.”

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Creating A Destination Pub’ and it has been designed around topics such as authenticity, boosting profitability, modern pub design, how technology can help the pub sector, food and drink trends and entertainment.

Over the three days there will also be a guided pub tour, demonstrations, tastings, a golf outing and a gala dinner to celebrate business excellence and success in the sector. Awards will be presented for the Irish Pub of the Year, Best International Irish Pub Food, Supplier of the Year and Marketing Campaign of the Year (Irish Pub).
