Alcohol prices fall 0.3%

Alcohol prices fell by 0.3% in the year to October according to CSO figures, with prices dropping by 0.2% on the previous month, September 2016.

Off-licence prices for alcohol fell 2.9% over the year comprising a drop of 2.1% in spirits prices, a 5.0% drop in wine prices and a 0.5% drop in beer prices.

Compared to the previous month, September, off-licence alcohol prices fell by 0.8% comprising a 3.2% fall in spirits prices, a 0.7% fall in wine prices and a 0.1% fall in beer prices.

In contrast, prices in licensed premises rose 0.8% in the year to October 2016. This comprised a rise of 1.2% in spirits prices, 0.8% in wine prices, 0.6% in beer prices and 1.0% in soft drinks & mineral water prices.

Compared to the September 2016 figures, alcohol prices in October flatlined with only wine prices showing a slight change (-0.1%).

Admission prices in nightclubs fell 2.5% in the year but fell 4.5% compared to the previous month, September.
