50th CATEX begins today

Some of the hottest names in Irish foodservice are set to feature on the Hospitality Heroes Live Stage at the landmark 50th anniversary of CATEX which opens today.

The three-day industry showcase takes place at the RDS, Dublin, from the 17th to 19th February and Mr Michael Ring TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport Tourism and Sport, will launch the show this morning.

Following the inaugural Hospitality Heroes’ Stage in 2013, leading stakeholders in the industry are gathering together once again to debate the hot topics and latest trends impacting Irish hospitality.

Amongst those featured in the schedule are Insomnia’s Bobby Kerr, Itsa’s Domini Kemp, 3FE’s Colin Harmon, Eat Galway’s JPMacMahon, Gregan’s Castle’s Simon Haden, the Central Bar’s Michael Gavigan, Aramark Foodservices’ Frank Gleeson and Sodexo UK & Ireland’s David Mulcahy.

The Bartenders Association of Ireland, The Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (Irish Chapter) and Chef Ireland have all orgainsed competitions to run during the event.

Ireland’s top baristas will compete in the finals of the Irish Barista Championship, the Irish Latte Art Championship and the Irish Cup Tasters Championship.

Mixology masters from across the country will shake up the stage when they gather at CATEX for three major cocktail competitions organised by the Bartenders Association of Ireland and sponsored by Edward Dillon & Co.

Taking place today, The National Hospitality Student Cocktail Challenge 2015 will see students from Institutes of Technology across Ireland put their skills to the test as they vie to become student champion.

National Cocktail Championship 2015 will bring the country’s top bartenders together tomorrow, 18th February, as they compete in an open championship to win the right to represent Ireland at the World Cocktail Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria, this Autumn.

In a new addition to the competition schedule, on Thursday, 19th February, the BAI and Edward Dillon & Co will launch an exciting new ‘no rules’ cocktail competition.
